On the Integration of Topic Maps and RDF Data

چکیده
Topic Maps and RDF are two independently developed paradigms and standards for the representation, interchange, and exploitation of model-based data on the web. Each paradigm has established its own user communities. Each of the standards allows data to be represented as a graph with nodes and labeled arcs which can be serialized in one or more XMLor SGML-based syntaxes. However, the two data models have significant conceptual differences. A central goal of both paradigms is to define an interchangeable format for the exchange of knowledge on the Web. In order to prevent a partition of the Web into collections of incompatible resources, it is reasonable to seek ways for integration of Topic Maps with RDF. A first step is made by representing Topic Map information as RDF information and thus allowing Topic Map information to be queried by an RDF-aware infrastructure. To achieve this goal, we map a Topic Map graph model to the RDF graph model. All information from the Topic Map is preserved, such that the mapping is reversible. The mapping is performed by modeling the graph features of a Topic Map graph model with an RDF graph. The result of the mapping is an RDF-based internal representation of Topic Maps data that can be queried as an RDF source by an RDF-aware query processor.

Towards a Universal Query Language for Resource Description Framework (RDF) and Topic Maps
Resource Description Framework (RDF) and Topic Maps are the two prominent technologies of Semantic Web developed for the purpose to make Web useful for humans and ‘understandable’ by machines by facilitating knowledge integration and sharing. The basic goal of RDF and Topic Maps is the same, i.e. to successfully turn the vision of semantic web into reality by attaching rich structured semantics...
متن کاملMetadata on the Web: On the integration of RDF and Topic Maps
Meta-information provides an additional layer of abstraction on web documents that can be used for sophisticated applications relying on the precise semantic characterization of their content. Two leading standards, RDF and Topic Maps, compete as the model through which expressing metadata. These two models are sufficiently different as to make back and forth conversion a difficult and imprecis...
متن کاملRDF and Topic Maps Interoperability in Practice
This demo will show a practical approach to interoperability between RDF and Topic Maps, based on the RTM vocabulary for mapping RDF data to Topic Maps. The demo will use the freely downloadable (registration required) Omnigator topic map browser. We will take an RDF file containing RDF data in the FOAF vocabulary [6] and show how this can be converted to a topic map, then browse the topic map ...
متن کاملViewing and Querying Topic Maps in terms of RDF
Both Topic Maps and RDF are popular semantic web standards designed for machine processing of web documents. Since these representations were originally created for different purposes, they have conceptual differences in their data models, and therefore have different tools to parse, store, and query them. However, there are more tools to handle RDF data than those existing for Topic Maps. Our ...
متن کاملTranslating Topic Maps to RDF/RDF Schema for The Semantic Web
This paper focuses on the issue for translating Web metadata, especially Topic Maps and RDF/RDF Schema (RDF(S)). For the Semantic Web, all Web information resources should be accepted and understood by any browsers and web applications. Topic Maps and RDF are both representative international standards for description of Web information resources. However, they have different schemes and syntax...
